Let me be completely honest with you before we start.
I did not want to publish this article. Not because the results were bad. Because they were messy. Real trading is not a clean upward line. It has ugly drawdowns, weeks where you question every decision, and moments where you want to shut everything down and never touch a chart again.
But that messiness is exactly why I am publishing it. Because every other bot trading article on the internet shows you a perfect equity curve and a testimonial from someone who made 200% in a month. Nobody shows you the week the bot lost $140 in three days. Nobody shows you the Sunday night you stared at your phone wondering if you had just made the worst financial decision of your life.
I am going to show you all of it. Every week. Every trade count. Every emotional swing. And the final number after 90 days of letting a machine trade my money.
Starting balance: $1,000.00
Ending balance after 90 days: Read to the end to find out.
The Setup: Everything You Need to Know Before the Numbers
Before we get into the weekly diary, let me give you full transparency on how I configured this experiment. Reproducibility matters. If you want to replicate this, you need to know exactly what I used.
The Broker: Exness
I used Exness as my broker for this entire experiment. This was not a random choice. After testing four brokers over the previous six months, Exness consistently showed the fastest execution, tightest spreads on major pairs, and the most stable MT5 integration for running Expert Advisors.
Account type: Raw Spread. Near-zero spreads on EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY. Commission per lot: $3.50 each side.
Leverage: 1:100. I deliberately chose lower leverage than the maximum available to reduce drawdown risk.
Platform: MetaTrader 5 (MT5). The bot ran as an Expert Advisor 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, on a VPS server so my computer did not need to stay on.
Starting deposit: $1,000 on Day 1. No additional deposits or withdrawals during the 90 days.
The Bot: Settings and Strategy
I used a commercial MT5 Expert Advisor based on a trend-following strategy combined with RSI divergence signals. I am deliberately not naming the specific bot to avoid this becoming a product review. What matters is the category: a trend-following EA with automated stop-loss and take-profit management.
Currency pairs: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY (the three most liquid major pairs)
Risk per trade: 1.5% of account balance (dynamic — adjusts as balance changes)
Maximum simultaneous trades: 4 (one per pair, with one reserve)
Take profit: 2:1 reward-to-risk ratio minimum
Stop loss: ATR-based, dynamic (adapts to current market volatility)
Trading sessions: London + New York overlap only (highest liquidity, tightest spreads)
The Rules I Set for Myself
Rule 1: Do not interfere with trades the bot has opened, regardless of emotions.
Rule 2: Do not change bot settings during the 90 days unless a critical technical issue occurs.
Rule 3: Check the account once per day maximum. No obsessive monitoring.
Rule 4: Document everything. Write a brief entry every week regardless of whether results are good or bad.
I broke Rule 3 in Week 6. You will understand why.

Month 1: The Honeymoon Phase
Month one was everything I hoped for and nothing like what I expected.
WEEK 1 · Days 1–7
Trades: 18 Wins: 12 Losses: 6 P&L: +$47.20 Balance: $1,047.20
Mood: 😊 Cautiously optimistic
The bot opened its first trade at 8:43 AM on a Monday — a long on EUR/USD. I watched it like a hawk for the first two hours before forcing myself to close the MT5 app and do something else. By Friday, the account was up $47.20. Win rate: 67%. I felt like a genius. I knew I probably was not.
WEEK 2 · Days 8–14
Trades: 22 Wins: 14 Losses: 8 P&L: +$83.60 Balance: $1,130.80
Mood: 😄 Getting excited
The second week was better than the first. EUR/USD was in a clear uptrend and the bot kept catching continuation moves perfectly. The GBP/USD bot had one bad trade that cost $31, but the other three pairs more than covered it. I started checking the account twice a day instead of once. Discipline was already slipping slightly.
WEEK 3 · Days 15–21
Trades: 19 Wins: 11 Losses: 8 P&L: +$28.40 Balance: $1,159.20
Mood: 😐 First reality check
Week three brought the first real test. A surprise Bank of England announcement caused GBP/USD to spike violently. Two of my bot’s open positions were stopped out simultaneously — $47 gone in about 90 seconds. The bot then caught a clean short entry on the reversal and recovered $31. Net result: +$28.40, but my heart rate told a different story. I started understanding why people say trading is 90% psychology.
WEEK 4 · Days 22–30
Trades: 24 Wins: 16 Losses: 8 P&L: +$61.30 Balance: $1,220.50
Mood: 😌 Settling into routine
The final week of month one was solid. The bot found its rhythm. EUR/USD continued trending. USD/JPY gave two clean breakout trades. I stopped watching every individual trade and started just reviewing end-of-day summaries. This, I would learn later, is actually the correct way to manage a bot.
Month 1 Summary
| Week / Period | Trades | Win Rate | P&L ($) | P&L (%) | Balance |
| Week 1 | 18 | 67% | +$47.20 | +4.72% | $1,047.20 |
| Week 2 | 22 | 64% | +$83.60 | +7.40% | $1,130.80 |
| Week 3 | 19 | 58% | +$28.40 | +2.45% | $1,159.20 |
| Week 4 | 24 | 67% | +$61.30 | +5.27% | $1,220.50 |
| MONTH 1 TOTAL | 83 | 64.5% | +$220.50 | +22.1% | $1,220.50 |
Month 1 feeling: This is amazing. I kept thinking: “If it keeps doing this, I will be at $2,000 by month 3.” I should have known better.
Month 2: The Reality Check Nobody Warns You About
Month two is where I almost quit.
Everything that went right in month one went sideways in month two. And I mean that almost literally — the market entered a prolonged sideways consolidation phase that is the natural enemy of trend-following strategies.
WEEK 5 · Days 31–37
Trades: 21 Wins: 11 Losses: 10 P&L: +$14.80 Balance: $1,235.30
Mood: 😤 Frustrated but holding
The market started ranging. EUR/USD was trapped between 1.0820 and 1.0890 for four consecutive days. The bot kept triggering entries on what looked like breakouts, only for price to reverse immediately. Classic false breakout environment. The bot still squeezed out $14.80 profit, but it took 21 trades to get there. The efficiency was dropping.
WEEK 6 · Days 38–44
Trades: 26 Wins: 12 Losses: 14 P&L: -$87.40 Balance: $1,147.90
Mood: 😰 This is the week I broke Rule 3
Week six. I need to be brutally honest about this one. The bot opened a GBP/USD long on Wednesday morning. Price immediately reversed on a surprise UK inflation number release that I had not accounted for in the bot’s economic calendar settings. The position hit its full stop-loss: -$34. Two hours later, the bot opened the same trade again. Another stop-loss: -$29. I broke my own rule. I opened MT5 at 11 PM on a Wednesday and stared at the screen for 45 minutes, my finger hovering over the “Close All” button. I did not close anything. But I wanted to.
WEEK 7 · Days 45–51
Trades: 18 Wins: 9 Losses: 9 P&L: -$41.20 Balance: $1,106.70
Mood: 😟 Second losing week. Confidence wavering.
Another losing week. Not catastrophic, but two consecutive red weeks felt devastating in a way I did not expect. I had gone from a high of $1,235 to $1,106. That is a $128 peak-to-trough drawdown — 10.4% from the high. Rationally, I knew this was within normal bot parameters. Emotionally, I wanted to burn everything down. I posted in our Facebook Group for the first time, just to talk to someone who understood. The community response helped more than I expected.
WEEK 8 · Days 52–60
Trades: 23 Wins: 14 Losses: 9 P&L: +$67.80 Balance: $1,174.50
Mood: 😮💨 Relief. The bot starts recovering.
Week eight brought the recovery I desperately needed. The market finally resumed its directional bias. USD/JPY broke out of its range with conviction and the bot caught a beautiful 140-pip move. EUR/USD followed. By Friday, the account had recovered more than half the losses from weeks six and seven. I felt relief, but also something more important: evidence that the strategy worked across market cycles.
Month 2 Summary
| Week / Period | Trades | Win Rate | P&L ($) | P&L (%) | Balance |
| Week 5 | 21 | 52% | +$14.80 | +1.21% | $1,235.30 |
| Week 6 | 26 | 46% | -$87.40 | -7.08% | $1,147.90 |
| Week 7 | 18 | 50% | -$41.20 | -3.59% | $1,106.70 |
| Week 8 | 23 | 61% | +$67.80 | +6.13% | $1,174.50 |
| MONTH 2 TOTAL | 88 | 52.0% | -$46.00 | -3.77% | $1,174.50 |
Month 2 lesson: A losing month is not evidence that a bot does not work. It is evidence that you need to understand what market conditions the strategy is designed for — and not panic when conditions are temporarily unfavorable.
The hardest part of bot trading is not the technical setup. It is surviving the emotional swings while the machine does its job.
Month 3: The Comeback and the Final Verdict
Coming into month three, I made myself a promise: whatever happens, I will not interfere. The strategy is sound. The broker is reliable. The only variable I cannot control is the market — and that is exactly the point.
WEEK 9 · Days 61–67
Trades: 20 Wins: 13 Losses: 7 P&L: +$92.30 Balance: $1,266.80
Mood: 💪 Finally, this is what I signed up for
Month three opened with the best week of the entire experiment. A strong US Non-Farm Payrolls release triggered a multi-day USD trend. The bot caught the USD/JPY move perfectly — entering on the initial breakout and adding to the position as momentum continued. One trade alone generated +$47. The account crossed $1,250 for the first time since the peak in week five.
WEEK 10 · Days 68–74
Trades: 22 Wins: 14 Losses: 8 P&L: +$58.70 Balance: $1,325.50
Mood: 😊 Building momentum again
Steady week. Three pairs contributing. EUR/USD gave two clean trend trades. GBP/USD had one false signal that cost $18, but the other three trades were profitable. The bot’s win rate was back above 60% for the first time since week four. I noticed I had stopped checking the account obsessively. I was genuinely comfortable letting it run.
WEEK 11 · Days 75–81
Trades: 19 Wins: 12 Losses: 7 P&L: +$44.20 Balance: $1,369.70
Mood: 😌 Calm. Confident. In control.
One of the quieter weeks in terms of market movement, but the bot still extracted consistent value. The small wins add up. Six winning trades averaging $12 each is $72 before losses. Take away three losses averaging $9 each and you have net +$45. This is what sustainable systematic trading looks like. Not exciting. Consistently profitable.
WEEK 12 · Days 82–90
Trades: 21 Wins: 13 Losses: 8 P&L: +$73.10 Balance: $1,442.80
Mood: 🎉 90 days done. Still can’t quite believe it.
The final stretch. The market cooperated beautifully for the last two weeks of the experiment. All three pairs were trending. The bot traded with confidence that, in hindsight, came from the settings being properly calibrated for current market conditions. By Day 90, the balance read $1,442.80. I took a screenshot. Then I took another one because I did not quite trust the first.
Month 3 Summary

| Week 10 | 22 | 64% | +$58.70 | +4.63% | $1,325.50 |
| Week 11 | 19 | 63% | +$44.20 | +3.33% | $1,369.70 |
| Week 12 | 21 | 62% | +$73.10 | +5.34% | $1,442.80 |
| MONTH 3 TOTAL | 82 | 63.5% | +$268.30 | +22.85% | $1,442.80 |

7 Things I Learned That No Bot Review Will Tell You
1. The Bot Does Not Care About Your Emotions. You Need to Be Like the Bot.
The bot executed 253 trades over 90 days without a single moment of hesitation, fear, or greed. It did not second-guess entries. It did not move stop-losses because it was scared of losing. It followed the rules every single time. Watching a machine trade is the most effective trading psychology lesson available. The lesson is not just to use bots. The lesson is to become more systematic in everything you do.
2. Month 2 Will Make or Break You.
Every bot trader I have spoken to has a story about their “Month 2” — the period where the strategy underperforms and the psychological pressure to quit is maximum. The bots that work long-term are not necessarily the ones with the best strategies. They are the ones run by traders who do not panic during the inevitable difficult periods. If you cannot survive a 10% drawdown psychologically, do not run a bot.
3. Your Broker Is Part of the Strategy.
I cannot overstate this: the difference between Exness and the two other brokers I tested earlier was measurable in real dollars. One broker’s spreads were 2-3 pips wider on EUR/USD during news events. On 253 trades, that costs real money. Fast execution protects your stop-losses. Tight spreads protect every entry. Your broker is infrastructure, and bad infrastructure makes good strategies look bad.
4. Hands-Off Is Not Set-and-Forget Forever.
I did not touch the bot for 90 days, and that was the right call for this experiment. But in real ongoing deployment, you should review bot performance monthly. Markets change. What worked in a trending market may underperform in a ranging market. Review settings quarterly at minimum. Think of it as maintenance, not interference.
5. 60% Win Rate With 2:1 R:R Is Genuinely Profitable.
My bot won 60.3% of trades with an average reward-to-risk ratio of approximately 2:1. Let me show you why that math is powerful: 100 trades × 60% wins = 60 winners. Average win: $17.80. Average loss: $9.10. Total wins: $1,068. Total losses: $910. Net: +$158 per 100 trades. Multiply by the 253 trades in 90 days, and the math holds up. You do not need an 80% win rate. You need consistent risk management.
6. The Compounding Effect Is Real, But Takes Time.
Month 1: +22.1%. Month 2: -3.77%. Month 3: +22.85%. The compounding meant that Month 3’s gains were calculated on a larger base, making the same percentage return a larger dollar amount. If I reinvest these returns and maintain similar performance, the numbers scale meaningfully over 12 to 24 months. Start earlier than you think you need to.
7. Community Kept Me in the Game During Month 2.
I posted in our Facebook Group during Week 7 when I was struggling. Within an hour, I had responses from three people who had experienced the same drawdown period with similar strategies and had come out the other side profitable. That community validation was worth more than any technical analysis. Find your people. Trading alone is unnecessarily hard.
What I Am Doing With the Account Now
The 90-day experiment is over, but the account is not. Here is what happens next:
I reinvested the full $1,442.80 back into the bot account. No withdrawal. The same 8-12% monthly return on $1,442 versus $1,000 generates meaningfully more in dollar terms. Compounding is the multiplier that turns patience into wealth.
I opened a second Exness account with $1,000 for copy trading. I now run the bot on one account and copy two verified traders on the other. Two strategies. Two income streams. If the bot has a difficult month, copy trading may outperform and vice versa. Diversification within trading.
I added a second broker: Vantage (partner code: ayQVh5rp). I run a slightly different bot strategy on Vantage to compare performance across brokers. So far the results are comparable, with Vantage performing better on GBP/USD during the London session due to marginally tighter spreads.
Would I Recommend Bot Trading? My Honest Answer.
Yes. With conditions.
Condition 1: You need to genuinely understand what the bot is doing. Not at an expert level. But enough to know what market conditions it thrives in and what conditions will cause drawdowns.
Condition 2: You need to be able to stomach a 10-15% drawdown without panicking. If losing 10% of your capital would cause you to shut everything down, do not use real money yet. Start with a demo account for a full month.
Condition 3: You need a reliable broker. I recommend Exness without reservation. I tested three others. Exness is the one I kept.
Condition 4: Start with an amount you can afford to lose completely. This experiment used $1,000. For some people that is three months of savings. For others it is three weeks. Only you know your financial situation.
If you meet all four conditions, bot trading can be one of the most efficient ways to generate income from the financial markets without active full-time involvement. My 90 days proved that.
